BC.Works is a recruiting-marketing and business consulting service for trades employers in British Columbia. We help electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, sheet metal and other trades companies hire journeypersons and apprentices by doing for their employer reputation what good marketing already does for their customer reputation: making the true, strong parts visible to the right people.

What we are, and what we are not

The direct answer: we are marketers and business advisers for trades employers. We are not a staffing agency, not a recruiter that represents candidates, and not a contractor.

In practice that means:

  • We market your openings and your company as an employer. Job ads, careers pages, campaigns, crew content and applicant follow-up.
  • You make every hiring decision. We don't screen, interview, place or employ anyone.
  • We never do trade work. We don't install, repair or service anything.
  • We don't give legal or compliance advice. When rules matter, such as Skilled Trades Certification or the Province's job-posting pay guidance, we link the official source, summarise it in plain language and suggest you confirm with the regulator or a professional.
  • We don't set or publish pay. Your pay range is yours.

Part of the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group

BC.Works belongs to the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group of companies. It is a Canadian business, headquartered in Vancouver, BC.

  • Sedighi.ca is the growth, marketing and technology consulting company Ali runs; HVAC.Agency, HVAC.Digital, Trades.Agency, BusinessConsulting.ca and Conv.ca are among its brands.
  • SAZ.ca, short for Strategy & Acceleration Zone, is the group's Canadian firm for strategy, AI and revenue-acceleration consulting; Ali founded it and serves as Founder & Managing Partner.
  • Trades.Agency is the group's trades marketing brand, and BC.Works operates under its plans and terms.

Ali Sedighi, MBA

BC.Works is led by Ali Sedighi, who holds an MBA in Technology Management. Before BC.Works he spent 17+ years in digital marketing; that work began in 2007 with ONE.ir, the full-service agency he founded. He now lives and works in Vancouver.

Ali also founded Conv.ca, a conversion-rate optimisation agency, and MyAutomation.ca, and he is Founder & Managing Partner of SAZ.ca. His client work spans Canada, the USA and Dubai, and his portfolio includes 150+ live HVAC websites. That HVAC work is where our measured results come from, and we describe it on the results page as results from our HVAC work, not as hiring results.

Why does a marketer with HVAC roots run a recruiting site for other trades? Because the mechanics of a good customer funnel and a good hiring funnel are the same: be findable, answer the real questions, prove what you say, and reply fast. The difference is the buyer. Here, the buyer is a tradesperson deciding where to spend the next few years of their career.

How we work

  1. We start with your numbers and your history. What roles, which regions, what you tried before, and what an empty seat costs you.
  2. We write the plan down. Message, channels, timeline, monthly fee and recommended ad spend, stated separately, before work begins.
  3. We build from the truth. Every claim in an ad should be checkable. If something about the offer is weak, we tell you, because marketing can't hide it for long.
  4. We report monthly. Applicants, qualified applicants, interviews, hires and cost per hire by channel, as far as you share outcomes with us.
  5. You own your accounts. Job-board, ad and careers-page accounts should be in your name. Exact ownership terms are confirmed in writing in your proposal.

Why this site exists

BC has a specific recruiting environment: compulsory certification in several electrical and mechanical trades, a supervision ratio that links apprentice and journeyperson hiring, the national Red Seal standard, and a geography that makes a 50-kilometre move a major life decision in some regions. Generic recruiting advice ignores all of that. BC.Works was set up to deal with it directly, region by region; see the areas we serve.

This site focuses on non-HVAC trades by default. Heating and cooling companies are welcome to talk to us, though their customer marketing usually runs through HVAC.Agency.

Talk to us

Whether a recruiting plan makes sense for your shop is usually clear after one short call. Eligible trades businesses get a free 30-minute first consultation, and plans are month-to-month with no long-term contract. The contact page explains what to send, and the pricing page shows the plans.
